Translation as a career | Simultaneous Interpretation …

When it comes to making translation or interpretation your next career, there are some very important things that you need to keep in mind.
First, you should possess fluency in English and at least one of the recognized languages of the United Nations; French, Spanish, Chinese, etc.
Second, some translation companies would prefer you to have great abilities in at least two languages in addition to English but there is a down side to this;  many of those companies who offer services in multi languages instead of specializing in one or two languages often find themselves in difficulty.
 
I have had first hand experiences with companies that offer services in multi languages ranging from at least five to at most 20 and their services are not what we would call up to mark.  On the other hand, I have also dealt with companies that specialize in three or four specific languages and they have offered much better services.  Our company for example, has deliberately chosen to offer services in French, Spanish, and Chinese; all recognized languages of the United Nations and based on our success it is what I would recommend to any budding or wood-be translator or interpreter.
