News – July 2019 – Elections Canada Tele Town Hall of June 6th

On June 6th, 2019, in collaboration with The Canadian Council of the Blind and Elections Canada, Sterling Creations hosted and ran a country wide tele town hall.

The objective of this tele town hall was to have given participants an opportunity to provide feedback to Elections Canada with regard to their concerns, suggestions, and comments in time for the upcoming Federal Elections which will be held on October 21st, 2019. Another objective was to give Elections Canada an opportunity to share with participants changes that they have implemented to improve accessibility to the upcoming Federal Elections. To polling stations, to their website, and tools to improve access to voting.

This tele town hall lasted for about 2 hours and 15 minutes and could only be described as lively and successful.

Susan Torosian represented Elections Canada and she fielded questions from across the country including from a group of participants who were live at the offices of the Canadian Council of the Blind in Ottawa. Donna Jodhan, president and founder of Barrier Free Canada – Canada Sans Barrières, was the moderator, and Albert Ruel of the Canadian Council of the Blind provided technical support. Kim Kilpatrick and Shelly Morris hosted participants at the Ottawa offices of the Canadian Council of the Blind.

Participants in the tele town hall sit around a meeting table in a board room, listening to the call on speakerphone as the local host takes notes.
