What are the banks planning?

I don’t normally pay too much attention to rumors but when they become persistent then I start to listen more closely.

What am I referring to today?  Well, it’s all about those Canadian banks that are being rumored to working towards the total elimination of paper cheques by 2020.

If this is true then I have the following questions:

Are Canadian banks hoping to make their services totally online by 2020?

If so, are they going to make all of their websites totally accessible and usable by 2020?

Will there be provision for those who are either technically shy or those who do not possess computers or i devices or those who may not have access to Internet connections?

When I ask these questions I am thinking of those seniors who did not grow up in the era of technology and who are not at all comfortable with technology.  I also think of persons who are print disabled and who are still struggling to make online banking a comfort zone.

As we sit here today, Canadian banks still have a very long way to go before they could lay claim to having websites that are totally accessible and usable or should I say websites that offer equal access to all Canadians.  I can only express the hope that whatever the case, Canadian banks will remember that with a rapidly aging population more and more of their customers are going to be those with special needs.

Just my two cents for today.
