How long can we be around for our kids?

There used to be a time when we could easily say that in many cases and even at the best of times, we would probably succeed our kids in death. Then for the most part we could qualify this by saying that this would be due to such things as the natural progression of the aging process.

That was then and this is now and a whole lot has changed at least since the turn of the century for us to wonder out loud how long can we be around for our kids?  There is a very troubling trend going on these days and it seems to be growing rapidly and it is this:

Our kids seem to be succeeding us in death and it is not just due to such things as illnesses and diseases, but you can put the blame on other reasons such as wars, terrorism, and crime.

Maybe I should rephrase my question to read like this:  How long can our kids be around for us?  Our sons and daughters are dying much too young these days.  They do not seem to be afraid to die!  They often jump in head first and leap before they look!

They do not seem to be afraid to face adversity.  They march to their own drums and they do it with their hearts as opposed to their heads.  They think nothing of violence and violent crime.  In short, they are probably their own worst enemy.

Just my two cents for today.
