Keeping up with technology

One of my favourite phrases these days is this:  “Ah yes!  The joys and wonders of technology,” and I often say this anytime technology plays a bit of a dirty trick on me.

For most of us, it is one thing to be able to keep up with the latest and greatest technological changes and that is; if we can afford to do so.  However for me, it is a lot more than this.

In the normal scheme of things, for the sighted world it means being able to procure the latest hardware and accompanying software but for me it goes further than this.  As a vision impaired person, I need to ensure that my access/assistive technology is also up to date, that it works cohesively with the hardware and software that I need in order to productively do my work, and that I have  the know-how when it comes to using it with such things as social media and online facilities.

Added to this is the ability to be able to navigate and use websites as independently as possible and here is where things get dicey for me.  This is so because accessibility and navigation all hinges on others to make their websites and facilities accessible and navigable and if said websites are not so then there is nothing that I can do.  It is all out of my hands at this point.

As an entrepreneur, I am finding it increasingly difficult to keep up with technology.  Affordability is one of the main reasons and after this it comes down to finding reliable assistance to help me install and maintain my technological environment.  A headache you may be asking?  Indeed but I have no choice if I hope to survive in the rapidly evolving world of technological change and shifting landscapes of attitudes.

Just my two cents for today.
